Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, these are the two names we have been hearing for past decade whenever it comes to footballing world and the records. These two have accomplished so much in their careers till now that anything they do now seems like it’s nothing big for them.
Lionel Messi, the little magician with outstanding skills, has been a part of Barcelona F.C. since he was a little child. Right from his debut, he has impressed everyone with his spectacular vision and dribbling, scoring over 600 goals and assisting another 200+ goals in 687 appearances for his club. He is also known for his loyalty towards his club (Barcelona) and why shouldn’t he be as Barcelona is the one that trusted him and helped him during his hard times at start of his footballing career, specifically when every other club in the world refused to do it. He has won the Ballon D’or a record 6 times and has also won player of the year on multiple occasions. He has multiple records to his name as well including, most number of club goals in a single season, most numbers of goals scored in Liga Santander (also known as La Liga), featuring in Guinness Book of World Record for scoring most number of goals in a calendar year (93) for club and country, and many more.
All in all, Lionel Messi has shown to us all that in football, your height or body stature doesn’t matter, if you have the skillset and the rock-solid mentality, there’s nothing in the world that can stop you from achieving what you really want.
And then, there is Cristiano Ronaldo, who had to undergo an operation in order to treat his problem of “racing heart” at the age of 15, began his footballing career in a club named Sporting CP in Lisbon, Portugal. After a few years, he was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, who was really impressed by his pace, skills and the goal scoring ability. After developing and impressing the entire football world with his amazing performances with Manchester United under the expertise of Sir Alex Ferguson. During his 7 years at Manchester United, he became the first player to score over 30 goals in one single season of Barclays Premier League and also won the Ballon D’or in 2008. Then, he was signed by Real Madrid for a club record fee of 80 million pounds and rest is as they say history as Ronaldo became arguably one of the best players who played for Real Madrid, scoring the maximum number of goal for them. He also won Ballon D’or four more times during his time at Real Madrid and won multiple La Liga titles alongside 3 consecutive Champions League trophies.
Recently he joined Juventus and helped them win the Italian League “Serie A” in his first season in Italy. However, the most enjoyable moment of Cristiano’s career would have been the moment when he helped his nation ‘Portugal’ win 2016 UEFA Euro Cup, his first ever international championship win. He also has scored over 600 goals and assisted another 190+ goals in his entire club career and he has a record 99 international goals to his name. Although his health condition at early stages, he was able to recover from it and with his hard work, is now known to be as one of the best players football world has ever seen.
At last but not the least, I would like to add that it would be quite cruel to decide who is better among these two, since they are the most complete footballers we will ever see in our lifetime. While one (Messi) is a complete dribbler and a born skill-star, the other one (Ronaldo) is the most clinical finisher, enthusiastic and energetic, and passionate footballer. Both are absolutely best and unbeatable in their own ways and picking one out of them will be extremely harsh on the other.
