This weekend, Formula 1 heads to Miami for the Miami Grand Prix, the first race across the Atlantic this year. After a somewhat lacklustre race in Azerbaijan, the focus now shifts to Miami, where there are several intriguing talking points to look out for in the paddock.
Perez And Verstappen Continue Title Fight
The growing title fight between Red Bull teammates Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen continues to intensify. Perez was able to get the better of Verstappen for the second time this season, closing the gap in the championship standings to just six points. With both drivers boasting two wins apiece, it’s game on in the drivers’ championship.

Perez has been able to put pressure on Verstappen at times, and with his preference for street circuits, he could excel at the semi-permanent venue in Miami. On the other hand, Verstappen will be looking to bounce back after a somewhat disappointing race in Azerbaijan.
Leclerc Provides External Threat
Charles Leclerc’s stunning one-lap pace in Azerbaijan provided a reminder that there could be external threats to the Red Bull duo. Ferrari had an impressive weekend, with Leclerc taking two pole positions and securing second place in the Sprint race and third in the main event.

This consistency was achieved without any upgrades on the car, and Ferrari is targeting this weekend’s race for their first significant developments to be introduced. If these upgrades provide a further step forward, we could see the Scuderia in the mix for pole position again and also able to stay that bit closer to Red Bull in race trim.
Sargeant Brings Excitement As Full-Time American Driver
Logan Sargeant’s arrival on the Formula 1 grid has been met with added excitement as America finally has a full-time driver to get behind. Sargeant hails from Boca Raton, Florida, which makes the Miami Grand Prix his home race. Although he is yet to drive on the circuit, he has had time to get acclimatised to the surroundings of the new Miami track, having been present for Williams last year.

It has been an encouraging start to the Williams driver’s rookie season, having been competitive without the results to show for it in the opening few rounds. Sargeant reached Q2 for the first time in Baku and backed that up with the same performance in the Sprint Shootout before a crash ruled him out of the Sprint itself. If he can continue some of his good form, he’ll give his home fans plenty to cheer for.
Alpine Looks To Bounce Back After Disastrous Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Alpine had a disastrous Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, preventing the team from showing their potential. Although they had an upgraded car to test out during FP1, a reliability issue for Pierre Gasly saw his session end in a cloud of smoke, and he then crashed in qualifying. It wasn’t just Gasly on the back foot, as Esteban Ocon changed his car’s setup after the Sprint Shootout (another session where Gasly had a mechanical problem) and had to start from the pit lane, leaving him facing a tough battle across both races.
Despite these setbacks, Alpine has shown pace at other races, suggesting there is plenty more to come from them in terms of results. The Miami Grand Prix provides the first opportunity for them to respond.
Miami Grand Prix: An Exciting, Busy Week For Fans & Drivers
Miami is gearing up for another spectacular week of F1 as teams and fans prepare for the race’s second edition. The teams had a busy few days with an exciting mix of off-track activations and on-track action. Last year’s event saw the city fully embrace the arrival of F1, and this year promises to be just as intense. From activations to cool events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The Miami International Autodrome has undergone a resurfacing process to enhance the racing experience. Along with the Hard Rock Beach Club, which has modelled itself on Mexico City’s Foro Sol, a party scene in the grandstands makes it a unique and thrilling weekend. The event has also increased its capacity, making it possible to accommodate even more fans. The paddock will be located on the field within the Hard Rock Stadium, adding to the event’s uniqueness.
With all these elements in play, it’s no surprise that Miami F1 Grand Prix promises to be a memorable experience for both the teams and the fans. Tune in later tonight at around 11:30 pm IST for Free Practice One.
