What a thrilling weekend it was at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix! The race had everything – drama, suspense, and a whole lot of excitement. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez managed to snatch victory from his teammate Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, making it back-to-back wins in Baku (Sprint and Main Race). The Sprint race had set the tone for the Grand Prix, with Perez dominating the field and taking home a well-deserved win. But the main event was where the real action took place. The drivers were determined to give it their all, and the fans were in for a treat.
The Battle at the Front

As the lights went out, pole-sitter Leclerc got off to a great start, leading the field in the early stages. But it didn’t take long for Verstappen and Perez to overtake the Ferrari driver, and the two Red Bulls proceeded to put on a show. They traded the fastest lap times, with neither driver willing to give an inch.
The Safety Car Shakes Things Up
But just when things seemed to be settling down, the Safety Car was deployed not once but twice. Verstappen had to pit under yellow flags as Nyck de Vries had stopped on track. On the other hand, Perez came in under the Safety Car that followed, giving him a significant advantage. When the race resumed, Verstappen fell to third and had to overtake Leclerc for a second time. He managed to do so but couldn’t catch up to Perez in the end.

Leclerc and Alonso Round out the Podium
Leclerc managed to hold off a late charge from Fernando Alonso, taking third place and denying the two-time champion a podium finish. Carlos Sainz finished fifth in the other Ferrari, with Lewis Hamilton in sixth. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Mercedes’ George Russell picked up minor points after a close call in the pits early on.
Heartbreak for Bottas
It was a tough race for Alfa Romeo, as Valtteri Bottas made three trips to the pit lane due to tyre woes. His teammate, Zhou Guanyu, also retired with an unspecified technical issue. Oscar Piastri, Alex Albon, Kevin Magnussen, and Pierre Gasly narrowly missed out on points as they completed a close midfield pack.
Perez Closes Down Max In The Championship Battle

Perez has cut Verstappen’s championship lead to single figures with his back-to-back wins in Baku (Sprint & Main Race). He also took home the Driver of the Day award and could have made up further ground in the drivers’ standings had it not been for a late stop from Russell, who bolted on a set of softs to grab the fastest lap bonus point.
Looking Ahead
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was a race to remember, with plenty of highs and lows for the drivers and fans alike. With the championship heating up, the stakes have never been higher, and the drivers are more motivated than ever to give it their all. The paddock heads to Miami for the next round of the season, and the excitement is palpable. Will Perez continue his winning streak, or will Verstappen solidify his hold on the top spot in the championship? Only time will tell. Let’s see what Miami has in store for us!
