Leclerc Took Pole Position Despite Hitting the Barriers

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc managed to take pole position for the Sprint race after hitting the barriers in a dramatic conclusion to the sprint shootout. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen secured P2 and P3, respectively, while Mercedes’ George Russell managed to secure P4.
Perez Claims His First Win of the Season

During the Sprint race, Perez claimed his first win of the season and the maximum eight points available. He finished ahead of Leclerc and Verstappen. Unfortunately, F1 rookie Logan Sargeant was unable to participate in the race after crashing out of the Shootout and sustaining significant damage to his Williams car.
Verstappen and Russell’s Controversial Battle

Behind Perez and Leclerc, there was a fantastic battle between Verstappen and Russell, with the latter making a fast start and managing to get ahead of the Red Bull. However, Verstappen was not happy about it and accused Russell of barging his way through. There was contact between the two drivers, and Verstappen ended up hitting the wall.
Leclerc Mastered the Restart, but lost out the lead to Perez on Lap 8
The Virtual Safety Car was deployed after AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda crashed into the wall at the exit of Turn 13. Leclerc held onto his lead, with Perez in P2, Russell in P3, Verstappen in P4, and Carlos Sainz in P5. While the drivers were cruising around behind the safety car, Verstappen received news that his car had sustained floor damage.

Leclerc managed to master the restart and maintain his lead at Turn 1. Perez held onto P2, while Verstappen managed to find a way past Russell for the final podium spot. The rest of the race didn’t have much to talk about apart from the fact that Perez crossed the finish line in the first place after overtaking Leclerc even before they brake for turn 1, securing the win in the first sprint race of the season and the maximum eight points available. Leclerc finished in P2, and Verstappen finished in P3.

It was a challenging weekend for some of the teams, with Alpine enduring a particularly difficult time on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Esteban Ocon had to make suspension changes to his car under parc ferme conditions and was one car lighter on the grid. Williams’ Logan Sargeant crashed out of the Shootout and was unable to participate in the Sprint race due to significant damage to his car.
